Office Disinfection: When to Order It and What's Included
Regular cleaning and disinfection are not the same thing. Cleaning removes visible dirt. Disinfection destroys pathogens — bacteria, viruses and fungi — on the surface of objects. When is deep office disinfection actually necessary and what does it involve?
When Should You Order Office Disinfection?
There are several clear situations where disinfection goes beyond what is included in regular cleaning and needs to be ordered as a separate service:
- A confirmed infectious illness case — confirmed Covid-19, flu or other respiratory infection in the office
- Elevated staff sickness levels — if multiple employees fall ill in a short period
- Moving into new premises — before moving into a space after a previous tenant
- After building work — construction dust can contain moulds and spores
- Seasonal preventive disinfection — autumn/winter when respiratory infections spread
- Food handling — office kitchens with catering or canteen facilities
What Does Deep Office Disinfection Include?
Contact Surface Disinfection
Keyboards, mice, phones, door handles, light switches, drawer handles — these are the spots with the highest concentration of microorganisms in an office. Disinfection is applied with a biocidal product with sufficient contact time (typically 5–10 minutes).
Bathroom and Kitchen Disinfection
Bathrooms and the kitchen require disinfection of all surfaces — sink, taps, worktop, cupboard doors, fridge and microwave.
Area Disinfection — Fogging
For larger spaces or following an infectious illness case, fogging disinfection is used. A biocidal product is sprayed as a fine mist that covers even hard-to-reach areas. The room must be ventilated after disinfection. The method is effective but requires the office to be empty during application (30–60 minutes).
UV Disinfection
UVC radiation destroys the DNA of microorganisms. It is used as a supplement to chemical disinfection, especially in server rooms and archives where chemicals are not suitable. It has a limited range — it does not penetrate behind obstacles.

How Does Disinfection Differ from Regular Cleaning?
Regular cleaning includes standard bathroom disinfection — but not biocidal products on all contact surfaces throughout the office. Deep disinfection is a targeted one-off or periodic action that goes significantly further. We recommend it twice a year preventively (autumn and spring) and always following an infection.
